Although there was little information regarding William Fox I could accumulate before his life in the military, his records in the Army remained fully intact.

William Fox joined the Army on December 10, 1943. He was involved in the medical department as a Tec-5 in the 262nd and 264th Infantry (66th Division). He served on the SS Leopoldville travelling along the English Channel to Normandy on their way to replace the troops at the Battle of the Bulge when an underwater explosion by a German U-boat impacted the ship and caused it to capsize. 762 men initially died where only 269 were recovered and buried and 493 men were never recovered, William Fox among them.
